combatting misinformation with
the reality check

COLOR_STRIP.png
highlight.png

We advocate for evidence-based sex education that centers the lived experience and medical reality of the person carrying a pregnancy, giving women the tools they need to make decisions about their own bodies and lives. Our organization challenges animated misinformation in classrooms by restoring scientific accuracy, context, and the mother’s perspective to reproductive education.

The Reproductive Reality Project has two goals:

Combat misinformation from the Baby Olivia Video

Sharing the right information

Join the movement to combat misinformation.

baby olivia:
what it is and how it’s being used

The Producers

  • Live Action is an anti-abortion group that produced "The Baby Olivia" video with the legislative initiative to incorporate it in public school curriculums, under the guise of sex ed.

  • Mission explicitly stated to “End Abortion & Build A Culture of Life. We exist to shift culture and law on abortion”

  • Clearly not an unbiased source of sexual education, but rather exists to promote a politicized indoctrination agenda

The “Doctors”

  • The video claims that “this state-of-the-art animation was reviewed and certified by leading OBGYNs and medical professionals.” However, these “certifiers” are all affiliated with anti-abortion organizations—medical information should not be used to persuade patients to pick a certain treatment option for the sake of the provider's personal beliefs. The leading researcher for this project, Dr. David Bolender, is not an OB-GYN, and has publicly denied the theory of evolution.

The Video

  • Pregnancy is typically counted from first day of one’s last period, but this video begins counting on the day of fertilization. The timeline is therefore shifted forward by around two weeks, so each milestone actually occurs two weeks after it is stated.

  • Fails to show mother, or anything outside of romanticized “uterus”

  • Fails to consider the mother’s life before, during, or after the pregancy—including but not limited to age, financial status, conception details (potentially rape, incest, etc.), career, and family

  • Overly animated, romanticized, and aesthetic—a uterus is not a beach at sunset and an egg is not a glowing orb!

The Threat

  • Legislation in various states, both introduced and passed, require the showing of this exact video in public school curriculums. This means that students, who all need to make decisions around their own reproductive health, are not being taught crucial information—in fact, they are being taught plainly inaccurate information that gives them an unrealistic perspective on pregnancy and abortion. In addition, this means that the next generation of leaders is being indoctrinated with inaccurate information, which poses a threat not only to the individuals responsible for their own lives, but others subjected to their leadership.

  • Even when not required by law, viewers of the video are not provided with accurate information so that they may come to their own conclusions about reproduction, pregnancy, and abortion. Everyone is entitled to their own reproductive healthcare choices, but deserve to have accurate information to base these decisions off of.

  • Abortion legislation typically refers to weeks of pregnancy as the weeks since one’s last period. This shifted timeline, which presents milestones earlier than they actually occur, encourages earlier abortion bans.

Fighting misinformation means spreading evidence-based facts. We've broken down the video's claims to explain why they're wrong and what the truth is.

Q: Isn’t this video “reviewed and certified by leading OBGYNs and medical professionals?” How can it be inaccurate then? A: Live Action certainly makes that claim, but Let’s meet those people! The leading researcher for this project, Dr. David Bolender, is not an OB-GYN, and has publicly denied the theory of evolution. He is the vice-chair of Christian Academic Physicians and Scientists, whose stated purpose includes “making bioethical decisions in medicine and science based on Christian principles.” Sexual education should not be based on one religion’s principles! Donna Harrison, Tara Sander Lee, and Katrina Furth all work with the Charlotte Lozier Institute, one of the largest anti-abortion think tanks in the country, along with other biased organizations. Michelle Cretella is on the advisory board of the Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity, an organization that advocates for the use of therapy to change the sexual and gender identities of non-straight or non-cisgender individuals. Her degree is in pediatrics, so though she is a member of multiple anti-abortion coalitions, her expertise is clearly not in reproductive or maternal healthcare. Jeffrey Barrows does not support the use of IVF techniques, mainly because doctors approach this practice with “not enough Christian.” In short: these “OB-GYNs and medical professionals” are far from an unbiased source of sexual education, and each one has pushed a clear ideological agenda. The video was certified by these six extreme anti-abortion activists, not unbiased medical professionals.

Q: What’s the big deal in counting a pregnancy from the day of conception rather than the first day of one’s last period? A: Abortion legislation typically refers to weeks of pregnancy as the weeks since one’s last period. This shifted timeline, which presents milestones earlier than they actually occur, encourages earlier abortion bans

Q: What’s the difference between Live Action pushing an anti-abortion agenda and The Reproductive Reality Project advocating for a pro-abortion agenda? A: We don’t push abortions on individuals—rather, we exist to provide women with accurate facts so that they can make their own choices about their bodies and lives. The “Meet Baby Olivia” video does not provide viewers with accurate information to be able to come to their own conclusions about reproduction, pregnancy, and abortion. Everyone is entitled to their own reproductive healthcare choices, and deserve to have accurate information to base these decisions off of.

Q: What legislation has been introduced around the video? A: Bills introduced by state legislatures that explicitly or implicitly require the showing of the video include: Tennessee S.B.2767 signed into law (05/01/2024); House companion H.B.2435; introduced by Rep. Gino Bulso North Dakota H.B.1265 signed into law (04/06/2023) Iowa S.F.175 (formerly S.J.1051) signed into law (06/06/2025) Idaho S.B.1046 signed into law (effective 07/01/2025) Ohio H.B.485 passed House (11/19/2025), pending in Senate; introduced by Rep. Melanie Miller Oklahoma H.B.1603 passed House (03/25/2025), pending in Senate; introduced by Rep. Emily Gise Florida H.B.1069 / related education package passed House (2025), Senate action pending; reintroduced in modified form (2026) Arkansas H.B.1180 passed House (02/06/2025), died in Senate at sine die adjournment (05/05/2025); introduced by Rep. Mary Bentley Kentucky H.B.346 introduced (2024), failed to advance West Virginia S.B.468 passed Senate (2024), failed to pass House Missouri H.B.1576 introduced (2024), explicitly names “Meet Baby Olivia,” did not advance Missouri H.B.461 introduced (2025), pending/failed to advance Missouri S.B.978 introduced (2026), pending West Virginia H.B.5075 introduced (2024), explicitly names “Meet Baby Olivia,” stalled in House West Virginia S.B.51 introduced (2026), pending Although there is not a comprehensive database for them, many school boards and individual schools have also enacted similar requirements and curriculums.
